.

ADOPT AN ELDER – Thank you to everyone who assisted us in blessing many traditional Hopi elders and families during the month of January! We were able to disperse about thirty $50 food certificates totaling about $1,500. As well, we distributed many very warm blankets, clothing, etc. and beautiful quilts hand-made and donated by ladies from Magnolia Baptist Church in Riverside, CA.

Here are only a few of the many elders we were able to assist during that cold week on Hopi…

The photo above is Lorenda, one of the ladies blessed with a blanket, a quilt and a food certificate. Lorenda lives in the village of Sichomovi on First Mesa. Her brother, Van, was a very traditional Healer and recently passed on. When she saw us she began to weep and ask for prayer!

The photo below is of our old friend, Harlan, who was, at one time, the Chief of Walpi, a very traditional Village on First Mesa. It seems we got to his home just in time. He desperately needed wood chopped and a fire built in his home. As well, we blessed him with food, warm blankets and a little something to keep him going.

The photo below is of Philip Honanie (and the team), also a recipient of a blanket, quilt, food and other necessities. Philip has suffered a couple of strokes which severely affected his mobility and speech. However, over the last few years we have seen significant improvement. One thing he has not lost is his sense of humor! Philip and his wife, Hilda (passed on several years ago) were traditional leaders in the village of Shungopavi and ran a very popular store called Hilda’s Emporium, the home of THE best burgers!

Again, many were very blessed with your generous gifts! Thank you for partnering with us!

If you would like to donate on a regular basis to a particular elder you may do so through our Paypal link. Everything you donate goes directly to our Adopt an Elder program. Contact us and let us know and we will assist you in that process.

FAMILY FUN NIGHT – We are preparing for our Family Fun Night on Thursday, July 4 (photo in previous post). We appreciate any donation, marked “Family Fun Night,” large or small. We will again work with the Kykotsmovi Store in raising funds during the event for the Hopi Cancer Patients.

Hopi Special Needs – Thank you for making it possible for us to give $700 towards the recent Hopi Special Needs event! Our gift went to purchase toys for about 200 special needs kids & their families. Giving to those who may not be able to give back is the highest form of giving.

A letter from the Hopi Office of Special Needs: “On December 6 we held our 2nd Early Intervention Christmas Dinner, consisting of roast beef, mashed potatoes, veggies, fried bread, salad, juice and many assorted desserts, at the Hopi Veteran’s Center in Kykotsmovi, AZ… Christmas stockings were given to each and everyone present. Grand Finale – The Christmas toys – All the children received a toy. We also handed items to young teens and young adults up to 20 years old. One child said, ‘I got just what I wanted!’ I asked what did you want. He said, ‘I wanted a play dough set.’ He received an 18 pack of multicolored play dough! The event will be forever cherished within our hearts, THANKS to wonderful people like yourself, Jack and your friends.” S.A.

Adopt an Elder – We’ll be sending more gift certificates from the Kykotsmovi store to other families. Again, thank you for your special giving to our “Adopt an Elder” program. With your help, we look forward to a blessed 2012.

Thank you! Kwakw’ha
